Actually, we want to share with you the information we have obtained after the research ,we had difficulty in answering when asked first, but also as much as we wondered. The word ‘towel; is derived from the word ‘pile , which means thin and soft hair. The fact that the suffix added to the end of the word pile does not evolve into the form due to the small sound harmony, that is, it is not used as pile, indicates that the word was perceived as an independent name in the 17th century. In fact, archaeological studies from the Middle Ages support this information and indicate that towels were first used in the city of Bursa in the 17th century. For that reason ,We think that the best quality towels in the world are produced in our country. Towel, which is known as Turkish Towel produced from cotton or linen which named as Peshtamal was first produced in a length that could completely wrap around the body, but later it was used more widely. Peshtamal was preferred in the Turkish baths, which belong to our culture before the houses, because of their light water absorption and high water absorbing properties. As the borders of the Ottoman Empire expanded, the use of Turkish towels increased and spread to the world. With the increasing demand from the 18th century on, towel began to change its shape and weavers were asked to work on more detailed designs. The towel, which was very expensive at first, reached the prices that every family could buy after the increase in cotton trade and industrialization and started to enter the houses. As technological advances and understanding of design progress, towels made of different sizes and raw materials have made our lives easier and added comfort and aesthetics to our daily lives.
